Missing work due to a headache: justified absenteeism?

The materialization of pain through problems related to the head, such as headaches or migraines, is one of the most frequent causes of work absenteeism. among those who spend part of their time working for others. This is so given that a high percentage of the female population recurrently suffers from pathologies of this type, which, in addition to the absence itself, causes these workers to have low work performance. According to medical data, the most common headaches in a work environment are both tension headaches and migraines, so it should not come as a surprise that some companies make an effort to improve the environmental conditions in their offices in order to minimize the impact of these anomalies.

Causes of sick leave due to headache

Tension headache, unlike the impact that migraine produces on our body, is quite annoying but it does not always incapacitate us to carry out our tasks, since this situation will be determined by the degree of intensity with which it affects us. The frequency with which this pain can approach us is variable and is usually associated with periods in which we have a lot of work or are under unusual pressure. We cannot limit the cause of the appearance of this ailment to a single factor, the most common being: poor posture, lack of sleep or rest, hunger, fatigue, excessive exercise and stress.

Migraine, for its part, is characterized by episodes of intense pain that are accompanied by symptoms such as nausea, muscle pain, or hypersensitivity to both light and sound. Of all the conditions related to the head that we can suffer, migraine is the greatest reason for disability and work absenteeism, having a significant economic impact on companies.

Research centers such as the National Headache Foundation have brought to light data stating that headache causes more sick leave each year than heart disease, mental illness and cancer combined. The problem is that, on many occasions, they are not even well diagnosed ailments, so patients are unaware of the problem they are suffering from and cannot remedy it.
