Headaches are not only summarized in one type, but there are many different manifestations of this annoying pain. Some of them are migraines and headaches, but there are a large number. All of them are very uncomfortable for the sufferer because they can cause nausea, vomiting and sensitivity to light. One of the questions that always comes up when we talk about this type of pain is whether the headache is really hereditary. The answer is yes. When both parents have migraines, for example, there is a 70% chance that the child will develop it. If it is only one of the parents who suffers from it, the probability is reduced between 50 and 25%.
Headache can be hereditary
Headaches, especially migraines, tend to be hereditary and not by behavior or learning, like depression, but by genetics. 90% of young people who suffer from this severe pain have close relatives who also suffer from it. When it is the parents themselves who have migraines or another type of headache, then the chances of a child inheriting it rise to 70%. If only one of the two has it, then the percentage drops to 50%.
The type of pain that is hereditary is chronic and for no apparent reason, so to speak, since headaches can occur for many more reasons, beyond human genetics. There are sharp pains that can be caused by the flu, sinusitis or pharyngitis. All these reasons are cured and disappear along with the headache. Others may be caused by strong blows in this area. In other cases, they can be caused by pain of another type, for example, eye pain or neck pain, which in turn causes a headache.
