Vertigo refers to a sensation through which the body (or what surrounds it) is continuously moving in the form of turns. It is a symptom that can precede the suffering of a good number of different disorders and pathologies, among which is headache. The most common origin of vertigo has to do with diseases that usually affect the ear, so the intervention of a specialist such as an otolaryngologist will be essential when establishing an effective diagnosis.
Headache caused by vertigo attacks
Both migraines and vertigo are two anomalies that, a priori, occur without any kind of mutual relationship. However, both what begins as a headache can end with dizziness, just as suffering from an episode of vertigo can turn into a severe headache. The origin itself will be a key in finding an adequate treatment and an accurate diagnosis. Vertigo can also appear accompanied by other symptoms such as ringing in the ears, nausea or vomiting.
Depending on the factors that cause the vertigo, it can last from just a few seconds to even months. In those cases, that last longer, the appearance of frequent headaches is more likely. Any woman can be affected by a pathology of this kind, so it is quite difficult both to predict and to avoid the first episode. However, we can avoid risky situations for our body -such as climbing stairs or working at heights- if we are noticing symptoms of imbalance and dizziness, since, on many occasions, they represent the step prior to vertigo.
The treatment of a strong episode of dizziness, accompanied by constant headaches, can begin with the medical recommendation of bed rest as well as the prescription of drugs that block abnormal activity in the inner ear. Thus we can come across drugs such as meclizine, promethazine or dimenhydrinate. Likewise, it is up to the specialist to carry out more extensive tests in the consultation.
